Creative Projects

Personal creative projects. It's important for me to have them. I'd probably recommend that to everyone else as well. I'm not talking about sidehustles or entrepreneurship or like passive income or boring stuff like that ... get money out of your head, I'm talking about making stuff for the sake of making stuff. Maybe even in the process you get to express yourself or learn something or get better at something. Maybe.

I'll probably write about this later, but I think in these projects I can directly combat the 'make money' capitalism mindset (sorry to use the cringey C word there) by doing the stuff that could easily be turned into a 'make-money' venture and purposefully denying it from becoming so. Write a book? Who wouldn't try to shill that. I'll write the book not for the sake of selling but to have as an achievement.

When I feel a little lost I can always jump back into one of these things and chip away.

What to do?

As like most people, I want to be good at many things, so I tried to (or am still trying to) pick a project in a few categories. The list so far:

  • Website
  • Book
  • Album/EP
  • Screenplay
  • Comic Book
  • Video Game
  • Short Film
  • Paintings

Some of those aren't exactly feasible but for now they're holding a place. e.g. A short film isn't really something I can do on my own so that might change.

Tracking and Motivation

In spite of my feelings about the toxicity of nostalgia, it does stir you. And with big meaty projects, you have to be stirred to keep them moving. I went with Pokemon here. Each project gets a badge and when I 'complete' the project, I award myself with the badge.

I mean so far it's working out pretty well.

The Projects

I'll put some links to pages here as I complete them:
